So three days I go I was in the car with Dad, heading to university. You know, usual Riyadh mornings, traffic, traffic and more traffic. Suddenly it popped out in my head that I don’t know a lot about my Grandma, since she passed away 2 months before I was born.
So I started to ask him questions about her, how was her character, what did she used to do.
He begun telling me some wonderful things about her that I never knew!
He said that she used to work with her father in their farm, and that she realized that some of the neighbors were poor women, no income and had children, so she decided to start a small business with them in her father’s farm so they can work and have an income and her family could gain more benefits.
So they would come with her, and take the dates out of the Palms, and sell it as it is or make it as deserts and then sell it to people.
I felt so proud of her to think that way!
That was like more than 60 years ago. In a small city.
Then after she got married she started another new business, she would design dress and then sell it for women in the neighborhood.
for her to be this hard working person, to think a little bit of the box, I believe it’s so great.
And I’m not saying that cause she’s my grandma, I’m saying it because I do believe it was hard for women in that time to work and to do their own businesses.
I hope one day I could be like her, and now I’m proud that I was named after her. ❤🙌🏻
